Gloria Gilbert Mayer & Thomas Mayer
Publisher: AmacomInterviewed By: Donna Gray 10/06/99 Who says Fairy Tales are just for kids? Certainly not Gloria Gilbert Mayer and Thomas Mayer. In a recent interview, Tom told me that he and Gloria, successful business people themselves, worked on different chapters of Goldilocks on Management separately and together, almost to the point that neither knew which chapter each had written. Their synergy is evident in every chapter. Tom told me that their purpose in writing the book was to create a tool for the numbers of successful people who have never seen the inside of a business school. All kinds of business situations easily fit into the concept, since fairy tales are prototypical stories that can be applied to every situation in business. Everyone can connect with something in a fairy tale and people will recognize basic business principals in fairy tale dramas. Tom said that he and Gloria wrote the book to translate management theory for people in the real world business trenches. Their purpose was to give real information in laymens language that could be understood, enjoyed and used by people in both small and large businesses. Tom told me that since fairy tales are cross cultural with themes that are very applicable to business, he and Gloria wanted to create (and they did) a business primer using fairy tale analagies that touch on all business subjects. You'll find the ''Seven Habits'' put to use here and you'll remember how to use them.
